Santa Cruz Pride & My Crochet Garden

June 6, 2023

I barely have the words to express how incredible June 4, 2023, was in downtown Santa Cruz. Pride is the most joyous celebration, and I was privileged to have a booth to sell my crochet. I met so many wonderful people. I think I smiled all day as folks came in, looked at things, loved… More Santa Cruz Pride & My Crochet Garden

California Auto Museum Market in Sacramento

December 12, 2022

My first market, and it was an experience. I didn’t know what to expect, but it didn’t really matter because the skies opened up, and it was rain-a-geddon with buckets of water hitting Sacramento in full force! I did pretty well, considering there were maybe two dozen brave people who showed up that weekend. I… More California Auto Museum Market in Sacramento

Santa Cruz County Fair 2022 – My Work Won Ribbons!

September 19, 2022

It’s rare for me to get feedback on things I’ve crocheted that’s constructive and helpful, but what I got from the fair is amazing. The judge uses a rubric (at the very bottom of this post) and then ADDS COMMENTS that will help me be a better hooker. I am so grateful for this incredible… More Santa Cruz County Fair 2022 – My Work Won Ribbons!

The Whimsy of the Mandala

September 9, 2022

I made these six-inch mandalas for Katie to sell with her plants. These look so good in windows and or among hanging plants. They need to be up high enough that a cat can’t get them because destroying the tension with one cat swipe is easy. Easy to detail with beads and fringe. I just… More The Whimsy of the Mandala

Crochet Sweaters Wrapped in Warmth

September 4, 2022

The best thing about crocheting a sweater is that I can get the fit pretty darn close with planning. Here are a few I made in 2022. I will make more! Happy to be commissioned to make one for you!

Crocheted Purses: Personal and Unique

September 4, 2022

I love making bags. These are my higher-end bags. They are detailed and use 100% cotton, making the texture smooth but without fiber (yarn has a fiber feel). The cotton yarn makes them feel a bit heavier, too – a feeling I like. I’m doing shoulder bags and backpacks; typically, the straps can do either.… More Crocheted Purses: Personal and Unique

It's me! Jen! And I'm cleaned up and about to see Trae Crowder in Santa Cruz. I'm even wearing a tiny bit of make-up. Wow.
Dinner before seeing Trae Crowder, December 5, 2024.

Jen Carole's 10 Commandments
(no hierarchy intended)

  1. People are more important than things - like tech, devices, sports, alcohol, and guns. Stop what you're doing and see them.
  2. Help others be successful. If you focus externally and on others, you will be nourished.
  3. Live with intention. Mindfulness is essential for effective agency so you can manifest what you want.
  4. Assume the best (generally). Most people have good intentions. Expect it. And give people grace.
  5. Seek to understand. We tend to fill in gaps with our bias, slow down, and clarify. Their experience is not your experience.
  6. Know your limits and red lines. Imagine how far you're willing to go to pursue your mission. Also, know when enough is enough. This is your armor.
  7. Past behavior predicts future behavior. Caveat: people can change, but it takes work; you'll know if they've done it. This rule is 98% reliable.
  8. Energy is contagious; it works for both positive and negative energy. Your energy will be reflected - so choose wisely. Coming in hot is typically unproductive.
  9. Don't provide feedback unless asked. If you feel compelled, that might be a you thing. Ask if they'd like feedback; if they say no, believe them.
  10. Always find the humor. I made jokes when my dad and stepmom were killed. Why? Because humor soothes the soul.
