MAGA Loathes (Most) Victims

January 15, 2025

Fires and earthquakes are what any native Californian fears and understands. Golden State Killer followers, evidence photos here. I grew up in Santa Paula and Ventura, and on that night in October 1967, my baby brother was born. My dad was with my almost three-year-old brother and me, and we watched the fires consume South… More MAGA Loathes (Most) Victims

Democracy Craves Civility

January 7, 2025

Standing in the doorway between our past and future, let’s reflect on a hero, Jimmy Carter, who walked his talk as a champion for democracy. From my point of view. It’s all about civility. This is essential as we gird ourselves for what’s ahead, a future that looks eerily like Berlin in January 1933, when… More Democracy Craves Civility

Democracy Without Agency Isn’t Democracy

December 18, 2024

Agency is another noun that needs to be a verb. Let’s start with a definition: human agency is the capacity to act independently, make choices, and influence outcomes in one’s life and environment. Here are the links to the food stories. Food Safety News with a 2020 story about animal operations, almond trees, and E. coli.… More Democracy Without Agency Isn’t Democracy

It’s Okay to Shine – Happy Holidays!

December 14, 2024

Today, there was a tornado in Scotts Valley, about five miles up the road. I never planned for my podcast to cover natural disasters, but after the tsunami and Trae Crowder, and now this crazy day of “where are my people? I’d prefer they don’t end up in Oz,” dare I ask what’s next—not going… More It’s Okay to Shine – Happy Holidays!

It’s Not Trump Loyalty, It’s Debased Obedience

December 11, 2024

Don’t be fooled; if you hear the word loyalty, they’re using the wrong word. Links to good things: Dr Oz on Candy Crush – here’s the ad. Patriotism is a Verb

December 9, 2024

No, flying a flag, wearing the colors, and saying the words do not make you patriotic. Here’s Elon abusing his sweet young son. And here’s that community tree lighting. Let’s start here: do you remember 1986 when Challenger blew up? Or 2001 when the Twin Towers were hit? How about when America beat Russia in… More Patriotism is a Verb

Trae Crowder’s First Tsunami

December 7, 2024

Trae Crowder graciously agreed to an interview after his show at the Rio Theater in Santa Cruz, CA. It was made possibly through a grant from God – a tsunami is how I managed to get the man’s attention. I’ve had wingmen before, but damn, this was impressive. Trae had two openers—both were great, and… More Trae Crowder’s First Tsunami

Day 6: What it Means to Be an American

October 29, 2024

Watch on YouTube or listen via podcast. In marketing, we design campaigns for markets based on personas. We can have one (lousy marketing) or several (good marketing), and they help everyone understand the core characteristics or traits of the persona. We do many other things, but good marketing starts with knowing the customer and their… More Day 6: What it Means to Be an American

Day 7: Trump Doesn’t Need Your Vote

October 28, 2024

Watch on YouTube or listen via podcast. Important! I neglected to include the improvements made by Congress after the 2020 election. They have made this HARDER to do (thank god) and I have the details at the end of this blog. My apologies for not including this important information. Day 11: Ending Social Security Will Kick Everyone’s Ass

October 24, 2024

Watch on YouTube or listen via podcast. In part one, I explain how Social Security works, who relies on it for survival, and how Trump and the team’s plan to end it in 2030 will hit families hard. Really hard. But it’s worse than that. It turns out the money funding Social Security is a… More Day 11: Ending Social Security Will Kick Everyone’s Ass

Day 12: What Social Security Does: Simplified

October 24, 2024

Watch on YouTube or listen via podcast. Social Security is like a big safety net that helps people in the United States when they get older, can’t work because of a disability, or when a parent or spouse dies. Let’s make sure we’re all on the same page. Here are some facts. President Franklin D.… More Day 12: What Social Security Does: Simplified

It's me! Jen! And I'm cleaned up and about to see Trae Crowder in Santa Cruz. I'm even wearing a tiny bit of make-up. Wow.
Dinner before seeing Trae Crowder, December 5, 2024.

Jen Carole's 10 Commandments
(no hierarchy intended)

  1. People are more important than things - like tech, devices, sports, alcohol, and guns. Stop what you're doing and see them.
  2. Help others be successful. If you focus externally and on others, you will be nourished.
  3. Live with intention. Mindfulness is essential for effective agency so you can manifest what you want.
  4. Assume the best (generally). Most people have good intentions. Expect it. And give people grace.
  5. Seek to understand. We tend to fill in gaps with our bias, slow down, and clarify. Their experience is not your experience.
  6. Know your limits and red lines. Imagine how far you're willing to go to pursue your mission. Also, know when enough is enough. This is your armor.
  7. Past behavior predicts future behavior. Caveat: people can change, but it takes work; you'll know if they've done it. This rule is 98% reliable.
  8. Energy is contagious; it works for both positive and negative energy. Your energy will be reflected - so choose wisely. Coming in hot is typically unproductive.
  9. Don't provide feedback unless asked. If you feel compelled, that might be a you thing. Ask if they'd like feedback; if they say no, believe them.
  10. Always find the humor. I made jokes when my dad and stepmom were killed. Why? Because humor soothes the soul.
